Hydrologists can be broadly divided into ‘surface-water hydrologists’, who concentrate on the monitoring, management and protection of surface water, and hydrogeologists or groundwater hygydrologists, who study the distribution, flow and quality of ground water.

As a hydrologist or hydrogeologist, you could find yourself:

  • Collecting and interpreting data on the various stages of the water cycle;
  • Planning and developing sustainable ways of using water resources;
  • Promoting water conservation by communicating on predicted trends and impacts on water flow, quality and shortages;
  • Finding sustainable water supplies.

Your work would allow us to better manage and protect our scarce water resources. Water is one of our most precious natural resources. Without it, there would be no life on earth.
